(NEW) Economic Education’s Financial Literacy Challenge Winners Announced  [TBA through May 23]
Financial Literacy is a skill needed for success in the global workplace.  Hernando High School Business Fundamentals’ students (taught by Mrs. Sharon Simpson) participated in the MS Council on Economic Education’s Financial Literacy Challenge in March.  The entirely on-line competition consisted of teams of 3-4 students answering 30 questions in 35 minutes.

The team “Easy Come, Easy Go” consisting of Katlyn Gouge, Kevin Hayes, and Austin Nicklay placed 2nd in the region for the 2011-2012 Finance Challenge with 540 teams competing.  Mr. Stafford of HHS presented them with MCEE certificates as well as checks for $50 each. Congratulations!

Junior varsity and varsity boys basketball tryouts will be Monday May 21, from 12 to 2:30, Tuesday May 22, from 12 to
2:30, and Wednesday May 23, from 10 to 12.

(NEW) Next Year’s Senior Pictures for This Year’s  JUNIORS [TBA Through May 16]
Juniors – J and B Photography will be here Wednesday in the PAC during advisory to talk to you about YOUR Senior Pictures.  Please be here.

 

Summer Reading [TBA through May 15]
Summer reading assignments are now on the HHS website.

Summer reading assignments are ready to pick up.  Please see the English teacher who you had this school year for this summer’s assignment (for example, if you’re a sophomore, you should see your sophomore English teacher for this summer’s reading assignment).

Final Exams [TBA through May 22]

Note:  you can also download this information.

If a student has an 85 average or higher in a semester class and has 2 absences or less, he or she can be exempt. (In nine weeks classes, if a student has 1 absence or less and an 85 average or higher, he or she can be exempt.)  That means if a student has missed no days, his or her last day could be Wednesday, May 16th.  On Friday, if a student is exempt from 4th block exam, he or she can leave at the end of 3rd block without checking out. On Monday, if a student is exempt from 2nd block exam, he or she can leave at the end of 1st block without checking out.  On Monday, if a student is exempt from 1st block exam but has to take 2nd block exam, he or she can wait to come to school at the beginning of 2nd block.

Desoto Idol [TBA through May 15]
HHS will be conducting its own version of American Idol : Desoto Idol at the Hernando Performance Arts Center (HPAC). The preliminaries will be held on May 15th and the finals will be held on May 17th. See Mrs. Freeman for more details.

Auditions for HHS Students [TBA through May 17]
Students! Hernando High School Theatre Department is putting on The Little Mermaid!!
If you are interested be in the choir room May 17 after school. Bring a recent photo of yourself and choose 10-12 bars of music form the show to sing.
Dress comfortably.

Wearing a club t-shirt or uniform to represent your organization would be appropriate and recommended. Thank you!
